Paul Chan graduated from the University of Auckland with a Graduate Diploma in Music. He earned his LRSM and ATCL diplomas in organ performance while he was under the tutelage of James Tibbles, Philip Smith, and Dr John Wells. He has worked with many choirs both overseas and locally, and has served as organist at
St Andrew’s First Presbyterian Church and St Luke’s Anglican Church in Auckland. In 2016, he was awarded a joint first prize in the NZOA Organ Performance Award and a University Blues Award in Organ. As the former organ scholar of Auckland’s Holy Trinity Cathedral, he worked with the Cathedral Choir and the music team on many occasions, including choral evensongs, Sunday Eucharists and major feasts. Paul is currently the Organist at King’s College where he teaches organ and plays for their chapel services. He also accompanies the college’s choirs on special events such as the annual Big Sing Competition.
Paul is passionate about organ music and has recently been appointed the Organist of St Matthew-in-the-City, where he presides over the Willis organ. Despite his busy schedule, Paul is also completing his post-graduate studies in organ performance at the University of Auckland. He is increasingly in demand as a freelance accompanist and recitalist.
