- Janet Gibbs
- Programme details to be announced
Janet Gibbs graduated from Auckland University with a Bachelor of Music degree. She gained her ATCL and LTCL diplomas in piano performance while still at secondary school. Her introduction to the organ began during her early teens. Valuable undergraduate training in church music was provided during four years as a chorister and sub-organist at St Mary’s Cathedral, Auckland. During this time, Janet gained her LRSM and FTCL diplomas in Organ Performance.
Since completing her tertiary training at Auckland Cathedral and Auckland University, Janet has devoted her musical talents to piano teaching and accompanying, and to organ and choir work – both here in New Zealand and later in Melbourne. There she became widely acknowledged and respected as an organist, recitalist, piano/organ accompanist, as a teacher and for her work in directing a number of parish and community choirs.
Her experience as a contract organist for the NZSO for 10 years, and that of accompanying and mentoring countless students in every instrument over many years, has given Janet a vast knowledge of repertoire and interpretation.
In early 2012 she returned from Melbourne to New Zealand. Once again based in Wellington, Janet continued to be a sought-after organ and piano recitalist, accompanist, and teacher. In 2014 she moved to Auckland and is now Director of Music at All Saints Ponsonby.
